Silent Magnetic Mortise Lock

But most door locks make a click. Sometimes a loud click. In a quiet hotel hallway at night, that click sounds very loud. In a library, every click distracts people. In a recording studio, you cannot have any click at all.

This silent magnetic mortise lock is different. The noise level is 30dB or less. What does 30dB sound like? A quiet library is 40dB. A whisper is about 30dB. So this lock is as quiet as a whisper. A normal lock is 55-65dB. That is 4 to 8 times louder. We reduced the noise by more than half.

First, the latch bolt has a PU cushion. The cushion is 1.5mm thick. When the bolt moves, it hits the cushion. Not metal on metal. The sound is absorbed.

Second, inside the lock, we put nylon pads between the moving metal parts. The gap between parts is 0.2mm or less. Small gap means less rattling. The nylon pads absorb the rest of the sound.

Third, the bolt has a soft landing. In the last 4-6mm of closing, the bolt slows down. It does not slam into the strike plate. It glides in. No click at the end.

Same as our regular magnetic lock. No spring. Side force resistance 6,000N. Handle force 1.5-2.5N·m. The size is 125x22mm or 145x22mm. Fits euro cylinder 35/35 or 40/40mm. This silent magnetic mortise lock has all the benefits of magnetic. Plus it is quiet.

We test every batch with a sound meter. The lock goes into a quiet room. We close the door. The meter reads the dB. It must be 30dB or less to pass. If it is louder, the whole batch fails.

Hotels where guests complain about noise. Bed and breakfasts. Nurseries. Libraries. Recording studios. Anywhere quiet is important. A hotel manager told us: "We used to get one noise complaint every week. Usually about doors closing. After we changed to this silent magnetic mortise lock, the complaints stopped.
